This Health Research Program opportunity is with Dr. Melanie Tran, Department of Nephrology.
Project Description: Renal fibrosis is the pathophysiological hallmark of chronic kidney disease (CKD), which is characterized by extensive fibroblast activation and extracellular matrix accumulation. The mechanisms implicated in renal fibrosis are not fully understood, and existing therapies are often limited and ineffective. This research project aims to investigate the role of UBX domain-containing protein 1 (UBXN1) in regulating renal fibrosis in CKD. The student will gain experience in cell culture, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, qPCR, Western blot and using mouse models of CKD.
