IBM PhD Fellowship Program

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is pleased to announce this limited submission funding opportunity/award.  Limited submission programs allow only a select number of applicants from each institution.  In order to determine which PIs will be selected as the official applicants from UConn/UConn Health, an OVPR internal competition may be necessary (full process is described at our website).

All PIs who wish to be considered for this opportunity must submit a notification of intent to submit form through the UConn Quest Portal by the due date listed below.  PIs must be selected and approved by the OVPR to be eligible to submit to this sponsor.

Program Information/RFP: https://research.ibm.com/university/awards/fellowships.html

Quest Portal Program Link: https://quest.uconn.edu/prog/IBM

Keywords: hybrid cloud, artificial intelligence, security, quantum engineering

Award Details: Awards for universities in the United States are $60,000 in year one; $35,000 in award year two.

Number of UConn Applicants: 4 applications each from UConn/UCH, maximum of 3 applications per department. If four nominations are submitted, it is IBM Global University program’s expectation that two of the four applications are for diversity candidates or underrepresented populations in technology

Eligibility: All nominees must be nominated by a doctoral faculty member; students cannot nominate themselves. Must be enrolled full-time in a PhD program over the two consecutive academic years of the award or forfeit the fellowship. Should have three years remaining in their program at the time of nomination so the fellowship can be applied to the last two years of study. Those that are receiving a comparable fellowship, internship, or support from another company or institution (except for academic scholarships) during the IBM PhD Fellowship funding period are ineligible for this award.

Internal Notification of Intent Deadline: Monday, October 18, 2021 by 12PM

Sponsor Full Proposal Deadline:  Friday, October 29, 2021 by 5PM ET

Additional information:  Due to the quick turnaround time, this opportunity will be first come, first served.
