The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is pleased to announce this limited submission funding opportunity/award.  Limited submission programs allow only a select number of applicants from each institution.  In order to determine which PIs will be selected as the official applicants from UConn/UConn Health, an OVPR internal competition may be necessary (full process is described at our website).  

All PIs who wish to be considered for this opportunity must submit a notification of intent to submit form through the UConn Quest Portal by the due date listed below.  PIs must be selected and approved by the OVPR to be eligible to submit to this sponsor.

Award Details: $30,000

Number of UConn Applicants: 1 application per surgical department

Eligibility: Candidate must be a Fellow or an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Candidate must be board certified in a surgical specialty and must have completed surgical training, including fellowship, in the last six years. This does not include military, medical, or family leave. Candidate must hold a faculty appointment at a research-based academic medical center or hold a military service position. Candidate must have received peer-reviewed funding such as a K-series award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Veterans Administration, National Science Foundation, or U.S. Department of Defense merit review to support their research. Surgeon-scientists who are well established (for example, recipients of NIH R01 and Veterans Affairs Merit grants, or equivalent grants from other agencies) are NOT eligible. 

Internal Notification of Intent Deadline: Monday, January 3, 2022 by 12PM

Internal Pre-proposal (if necessary) Deadline: Monday, January 10, 2022 by 12PM

Sponsor Full Proposal Deadline:  February 28, 2022

Additional information:  If a full internal competition is necessary, pre-proposals should be submitted that include: 1) A two page project narrative briefly describing the project, its key aims/objectives, the methodologies/approaches that will be used, and how the project goals align with the goals of the program.  Please see the sponsor guidelines for details about program goals and application components.  2) 1-2 page budget overview with justifications.  3)  Biosketches/brief CVs for key personnel.
