The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is pleased to announce this limited submission funding opportunity/award.  Limited submission programs allow only a select number of applicants from each institution.  In order to determine which PIs will be selected as the official applicants from UConn/UConn Health, an OVPR internal competition may be necessary (full process is described at our website).  

All PIs who wish to be considered for this opportunity must submit a notification of intent to submit form through the UConn Quest Portal by the due date listed below.  PIs must be selected and approved by the OVPR to be eligible to submit to this sponsor.

Award Details: MRI awards are categorized into Track 1 ($100k-$1M), Track 2 ($1M-$4M), and Track 3 ($100k-$4M)

Number of UConn Applicants: 4 from Storrs/Regional Campuses, 4 from UConn Health (Each performing organization is limited to a maximum of three proposals in Tracks 1 and 2, with no more than two (2) submissions in Track 1 and no more than one (1) submission in Track 2. One (1) additional submission is permitted in the newly defined Track 3).

Internal Notification of Intent Deadline: 5/8/2023

Internal Pre-proposal (if necessary) Deadline: 5/24/2023

Sponsor Full Proposal Deadline:   10/16/2023 - 11/15/2023

Additional information:  Cost sharing of precisely 30% of the total project cost is required for Ph.D.- granting institutions of higher education and non-degree-granting organizations.

If a full internal competition is necessary, pre-proposals should be submitted that include: 1) a cover page which includes PI’s name, title, and contact information,m proposal title, and proposal type (Acquisition, Development, or Helium, Track 1, Track 2, or Track 3); 2) a project plan no longer than 3 pages outlining information the project.  Include information about the instrument, the research activities enabled by the instrument, and management plans.  See NSF guidelines regarding project description subsections for guidance; 3) A brief budget w/justification.   NSF MRI requires a 30% cost share by the institution.  Please include a draft plan for how this institutional cost share could be achieved.  If you have already received cost share commitments, please include pro-forma letters of support; 4) CV/Biosketches for key personnel.
