DOE: FY21 Advanced Manufacturing Office Multi-Topic FOA

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is pleased to announce this limited submission funding opportunity/award.  Limited submission programs allow only a select number of applicants from each institution.  In order to determine which PIs will be selected as the official applicants from UConn/UConn Health, an OVPR internal competition may be necessary (full process is described at our website).  

All PIs who wish to be considered for this opportunity must submit a notification of intent to submit form through the UConn Quest Portal by the due date listed below.  PIs must be selected and approved by the OVPR to be eligible to submit to this sponsor.

Award Details: between up to $500K and $4M depending on subtopic area

Cost-Share Requirements: The cost share must be at least 20% of the total allowable costs for research and development projects (i.e., the sum of the government share, including FFRDC costs if applicable, and the recipient share of allowable costs equals the total allowable cost of the project) and must come from non-federal sources unless otherwise allowed by law. (See 2 CFR 200.306 and 2 CFR 910.130 for the applicable cost sharing requirements.) 

Number of UConn Applicants: 1 applicant for each sub-topic area

Internal Notification of Intent Deadline: Monday, August 16, 2021 by 12PM

Internal Pre-proposal (if necessary) Deadline: Monday, August 23, 2021 by 12PM

Sponsor Concept Paper Deadline: Friday, September 10, 2021 by 5PM EST

Sponsor Full Proposal Deadline:  Friday, November 5, 2021 by 5PM EST

Additional information:  Applicants must indicate which sub-topic area they are applying to in their NOI. Topic areas are: Topic Area 1a: Efficiency Improvements to Drying Processes; Topic Area 1b: Advanced Tooling for Lightweight Automotive Components; Topic Area 1c: Sustainable Chemistry Practices in Manufacturing; Topic Area 2a: Materials for Harsh Service Conditions; Topic Area 2b: Development of Aluminum-Cerium (Al-Ce) Alloys and Processing to Enable Increased Energy Efficiency in Aerospace Applications; and Topic Area 3a: Structured Electrode Manufacturing for Lithium-ion Batteries.

If a full internal competition is necessary, pre-proposals should be submitted that include: 1) A two page project narrative briefly describing the project, its key aims/objectives, the methodologies/approaches that will be used, and how the project goals align with the goals of the program.  Please see the sponsor guidelines for details about program goals and application components.  2) 1-2 page budget overview with justifications.  3)  Biosketches/brief CVs for key personnel.
